DocuTran Is...
< Back
DocuTran is a software product that provides all of the capabilities
required for most image based or character based document processing
applications. DocuTran includes the real-time transport operation
for a wide range of different transports. The software also
provides flexible image data entry for reject correction, verification,
entry and balancing. The feature can automatically perform
multi-level balancing computations, control document identification
and processing, character, field, record and batch validations
and many more universal document processing functions. The
software is portable, international, readily adaptable to new
transports and imaging devices and operates with Windows or
NetWare file servers.
DocuTran can often eliminate custom programming for an application,
using instead comprehensive parameter-driven applications definitions.
Where custom programming is needed, for unusual requirements
or specialized hardware, the software provides an elegant mechanism
for small custom routines to be integrated seamlessly into
the software's normal operations. The result is rapid development,
high reliability, no sacrifice in flexibility, and ease of
maintenance and upgrade.
A Proven Product
DocuTran has been used for high speed document processing
in over 200 systems around the world since 1986. The applications
it is being used for include check processing, bar code sorting,
GIRO payment transactions, image remittance, proxy processing,
delivery coupons and many more.
Image Document Processing Without Custom Programming
DocuTran allows complex image-based applications to be developed
rapidly with little or no programming, using powerful applications
development tools. The required functionality and flexibility
were never sacrificed or compromised in order to achieve this
break-through in ease of development. Tangent Systems was founded
on the conviction that custom software is bad business for
vendor and user alike, and will seriously limit the growth
of image document processing.
Helping Image Document Processing to Become a Commodity Product
The early image document processing systems
were very expensive, used proprietary hardware and relied
almost entirely on custom software. If the image document
processing market is to expand and grow rapidly, then we
must offer "commodity" products,
which have reasonable prices, high performance and require
very little development effort. Nobody would buy Lotus 1-2-3
if they were given a bag of subroutines and told to create
their own program from scratch for each new application. Image
processing must become easier to buy, to program and to use.
While still more expensive and demanding than character-based
OCR, image systems costs are rapidly declining towards the
cost of OCR non-image systems. DocuTran is uniquely positioned
to make image document processing truly a commodity product.
